Overview
Selected due to extensive expertise in hospital construction and exterior cladding systems, KHS&S provided a complete re-skin on the existing 368-bed, 750,000-square-foot HealthPark Medical Center, a flagship property of Lee Memorial Health System. The specific scope of work included removing the existing stucco system, completing frame repairs, and installing a new Sto system. The project was completed six months ahead of schedule.
As part of the project, the project team developed and implemented a customized Infection Control Risk Assessment (ICRA) program, based on national standards, for minimizing infections during the construction process. This program included setting up containments to prevent airborne allergens from entering the hospital from the construction area.
Built in 1991, the original facility began having moisture-related intrusion in 2005, caused primarily by window and curtain wall leakage. In 2008, problems with the solid stucco wall system became evident. After conducting a complete investigation and analysis into the conditions leading to the moisture intrusion, Ivy Group Consultants designed a re-cladding system and was instrumental in selecting KHS&S to complete the exterior re-skin project.
