Overview

KHS&S brought construction magic to its second Gaylord Hotel by recreating the best of Texas history and culture under the signature glass atrium of the Gaylord Texan Resort and Convention Hotel.  KHS&S also installed more than 2.5 million square feet of drywall in the hotel convention center.

In the vast atrium, KHS&S created distinct themed areas representing parts of the Lone Star State. Areas include the Hill Country Restaurant, Mission Wall, Mission Plaza Bell Tower, Riverwalk Buffet and the lobby porch. Scopes of work included metal stud framing, plaster, drywall, carved theme plaster, simulated brick, GFRG, GFRC, EIFS and themed painting and finishes. KHS&S used between 20 and 30 textures on the facades.

KHS&S built the iconic mission wall using an aggregate image of six Spanish missions, including the Alamo.  On the wall is a geometric fresco that KHS&S replicated from the legendary Concepcion Mission in San Antonio.  A portion of the fresco was created using a stenciling technique.

On the convention center, in addition to the drywall, KHS&S completed metal stud framing, insulation, acoustical ceilings, interior stone and GFRG.
